Croeso nol!

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

As you already know, for the time being, learning will take place online.  I have created a short video below to tell you how our online learning will work.

                                                                Remote Learning 2021

As a Foundation Phase, we suggest that you complete one literacy task, one numeracy task and one other task each day. These will be shared via J2Homework with supporting videos and resources uploaded to the Class Shared Folder on Hwb. The work will be uploaded for the week, you can choose what order you wish to complete the tasks in.

In order to practise key skills it would be beneficial if the children complete one or two of the activities suggested below.

· Online RWI sessions

· Oxford Buddy Reading

· Handwriting practise

· Number formation

· High Frequency Reading and Spelling

· Number Songs

· Mental maths – number bonds, one more/one less, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, and doubling and halving.

· Fitness Sessions - Cosmic Kids, Jump Start Johnny, Go Noodle and Joe Wicks.

When uploading work to your child’s Hwb folder, there is no expectation to share evidence of practical activities. If you wish to do so, one photo showing the skill is adequate. Feedback will be given on pieces of work using the record button and J2Stars will be awarded for different pieces of work.

If you wish to contact us, please use the J2Message app on Hwb or email us through the school office email – admin.penygawsiprimary@rctcbc.gov.uk.  I am here to help if you need anything.

Not forgetting parents; thank you for the continued support this term.  I would also like to say an extremely big diolch yn fawr to you all, on behalf of myself, Mrs Evans and Miss Huxtable, for the kind and generous gift we each received last week.

Dragon Bags Clothing Recycling Scheme

Did you know that 95% of discarded clothing can be recycled or up-cycled and that the carbon footprint of one new t-shirt is greater than driving a car for 35 miles? Here in Penygawsi we are proud of our Eco School status and are working towards gaining our Silver Rights Respecting Schools Award. As part of this we believe “children and young people should be able to live in a way that helps them reach their full physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social potential” (UNCRC Article 27) and felt Dragon Bags was the perfect scheme to link these notions together.

The Dragon bags scheme is designed to develop pupils’ awareness of textile recycling and become more environmentally responsible. It also provides us with a platform to generate much needed funds for our school whilst reducing the amount of textiles that reach landfill within the UK.

Once collected the clothes will be distributed to provide affordable clothing to people who need it the most. We now have a clothing bank on school grounds and are keen to get our families and community involved. We ask for your help by bringing in any of the clothing/textiles listed below. These donations can be either left in the school reception or with your class teacher. We welcome any donations from friends and families if you are happy to collect and bring in on their behalf.

Look out for Daffi The Dragon around the school advertising the scheme and to find out what you what you can and can not donate he's posted the items below.

Many Thank
Mrs Rees and PTA :0)

Children in Need (see below)

We know things have been tough recently, so this year the Children In Need Appeal is making children’s mental wellbeing their number one priority.

Five to Thrive is their unique programme of wellbeing activities for their Appeal Week (9th-13th Nov), led by Joe Wicks, Dr Radha and Blue Peter. Inspired by the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, each day they have lots of content and classroom resources designed to help children feel better about themselves – as well as helping others.  We will be delving into these wonderful resources and choosing our favourites for our Children in Need Day at school on Friday 13th November.

We are asking for a cash donation of £1 towards this very important cause, that as a school we have supported for many years.  We are asking that the children come into school on Friday 13th in non-uniform.  There is no specific theme to this year's appeal due to the current climate but as a school we have chosen Yellow or Spotty.  Therefore, we would like the children to come into school with an item of clothing or accessory that is yellow or spotty.  They may even wish to wear their pyjamas as we have in previous years.  We do not want you to feel pressured to buy something new at such a challenging time, so the children can wear any non-uniform on the day if you do not have anything yellow or spotty.

As always we will keep you updated on the fun we have through our Twitter account and will hopefully make the appeal show with the total we raise Friday evening.  We thank you in advance for your kind donations.

Christmas card orders 2020

The ordering process will be slightly different this year, in a bid to be more eco friendly we are going to do all of the ordering online rather than sending copies of the cards home:

Your child's Christmas card design has been uploaded to their individual file on J2e.

The product ordering for this year will just be Christmas cards (packs of 10) or gift tags (packs of 25)

If you would like to order cards or tags then ask your child to show you their design for this year in the J2E folder and then place your order using this link. We will be using the newly set up PTA Paypal account and you will be send an invoice via email for payment:

Prynhawn da all,

I can't believe we are coming to the end of the first half term already!  It's been a strange start to the school year but the children have been fantastic and quickly adjusted to their new routines.  I am really impressed with how they have settled in and worked so hard in all of their tasks.  Da iawn, pawb!

I am looking forward to speaking with you all this week for parent evening phone calls.  A gentle reminder that each call will last a maximum of 10 minutes.  I will let you know how your child has settled in, what they have achieved so far and their next steps in learning.  If you wish to discuss anything else, we can make arrangements to speak at a later date.

No PE this week.

Reading bags and a new book will be sent home.

Here are some photos of our Shwmae Day last week.  We had a lot of fun and spoke lots of Welsh throughout the day.  A big 'bendegedig' to all of the children for their efforts!
