New school website

Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus! Happy Saint David's Day!

We have a busy week ahead of us, with Saint David's Day celebrations and World Book Day this week.

We were so pleased to see everyone last week and hear all about your days at home.  We had a lovely few days, getting ourselves back into the school day.  Mrs Evans and I were proud of how the children came in and got straight back into their routines.  They were so pleased to see their friends and there were big smiles all around :)

Here is the information for this week:

Dydd Llun/Monday

Today is Saint David's Day.  We will have a celebration in class during the afternoon.  Please wear your Welsh clothing (costumes, tops, or something red or green) to school today.

During the afternoon we will have a food tasting session, tasting Welsh cakes, bara brith, cheese.  Please let me know on the gate in the morning if you do not want your child taking part or have any concerns.

Dydd Iau/Thursday

World Book Day - we will complete a carousel of activities in the afternoon to celebrate.  We are not dressing up this year, so please come in school uniform as normal.

Dydd Gwener/Friday

PE - please wear kit to school.

Spellings

Your child was sent home with a spelling list in their reading bags on Friday.  This may be the spelling list he/she moved on to during distance learning or a new list.  We reassessed spellings last week so this is the most up to date list they will need to work on.  If it is the same list as you have been practising at home already, please can you remove the note attached and send it back in on Monday with your child's name and spelling list and number on it.  This way I will know which list they are working on to practise in school.  If your child received a different list, please start on number 1.  We will restart peer spell tests on Monday 8th March.

Reading

We understand that weekends can be very busy and there's not always time to read your book, so we have changed the way we send home and return books.  On Friday, your child brought home 2 reading books.  Please keep these books to practise for the week, and return them the following Monday 8th March.  They will then bring another 2 books home on the Friday.

We have a new school website, which will replace our current blog page.  Please click the link below to access it and take a look.  To find your child's class page, please click on CHILDREN, CLASS PAGES, and then 'Craig y Llyn'.

For this week, I have posted the update on both pages. However, from next week, the updates will be on the class page on the website only.

Prynhawn da everyone,

Croeso nol Craig y Llyn!

I hope you've all had a lovely, relaxing week at home with your families.  We are so pleased to be welcoming you back to school tomorrow!  We have missed having you in class and can't wait to get you all back together and learning with the company of your friends again.

We have a busy half term ahead, as we continue with our 'Love Where You Live' topic and work towards our STEM project.  We are hopefully through the worst of the weather and spring is just around the corner.  We will be using the outdoors a lot this term, so please make sure you have appropriate clothing for the weather.

Please see the main blog for information about the return to school.

- Pupils with surnames A-L to attend school on Monday and Tuesday.

- Pupils with surnames M-Z to attend school on Wednesday and Thursday.

- All pupils in school on Friday.

Reading bags

If you have reading bags and/or books at home, please can you return them on your first allocated day back?

Spellings

For this week, please continue to practice your spelling lists and complete a test for the list you are working on at home.

Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus

St. David's Day is on Monday 1st March.  We will be celebrating with activities in school.  Please can pupils wear something Welsh themed to school?  We appreciate that there are restrictions in shops and that it is difficult to get hold of things.  If you have a traditional Welsh costume or a rugby/football top to wear, this would be great, but if not, you could wear a red or green item of clothing or even a daffodil or leek.

We look forward to seeing you in the morning and welcoming you back to school!

Cardiff City Festival

This week we will be taking part in Cardiff City FC Foundation’s Bluebirds from home festival.

We will be competing against Cardiff City First team and Women’s first team players in physical activity challenges. These challenges will be introduced to you by a different Cardiff City player each day and you will also find a set of instructions in your class’ shared folder to help you with each challenge.

The challenges will run from Monday to Thursday, with Friday being reserved for a fun filled day of physical activities. These have been designed as a lot of children will have been missing out on taking part in sports and physical activities during the current lockdown period. On Friday there are six rounds of activities with an option of two activities per round. These activities have been designed to require little or no equipment, but any equipment required should be items you can find around the house.

There will be a link to a feedback questionnaire for parents to complete on Friday finding their thoughts on the festival resources and their children during the current lockdown restriction. All parents completing feedback questionnaires will be entered in to a draw to win a Cardiff City FC Kit for their child and a PE equipment bag for their school worth over £250!

As part of the event, families are encouraged to post social media content throughout the week tagging your school, @CCFC_Foundation and using the hashtags #BluebirdsFromHome #AdarGleisionOAdre

Good luck everyone and hopefully we will see lots of you taking part. Here is Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison welcoming you all to the Bluebirds from home festival: https://vimeo.com/503427662

Wythnos 6 - WC 8th Feb

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone has had a nice, relaxing weekend.  Can you believe that we are already in the last week before half term?  It has flown by!
Even though we didn't expect this half term to turn out the way it has, you have worked super hard and should all be very proud of yourselves!  I think we are all ready for a well deserved break and some down-time at home.

I will see you all on the morning call tomorrow.  Please remember to stick to your times.  If I am slightly late, please don't worry, it just means that the other call has run over and I will be with you as soon as possible.

Safer Internet Day

The 9th February is Safer Internet Day and the theme this year is 'An internet we trust' which links to two of the UNCRC articles.  These are articles 16 and 17.  Article 16 means that children have the right to privacy and Article 17 means that children have the right to access information, particularly from the media.  Our afternoon activities will focus on this.

Just a few reminders for this week:

Spelling
Please complete ONE list a week and let me know when you need the next list.

Teams
Just a reminder to everyone that when you join the Teams calls, you should be logged on as a child.  I will be unable to let you into the call if you are logged on as an adult.

Please also recap the rules of the calls on the image below.

Brawddeg yr Wythnos

The Brawddeg yr Wythnos for this week is below.

We use this when we are asking for items around the classroom, requesting food in the dinner hall or asking to go to the bathroom.  Please have a go at this at home this week.  Maybe you can ask your adults for items using the phrase?  Don't forget to add 'os gwelwch yn dda', your phrase from last week, to the end for your manners!

Let's make the last full week at home a good one.  I can not wait to see you all back in the classroom after half term!

Have a fantastic week everyone and let me know if you need anything.

Take care
Miss Parfitt

Wythnos 5 - WC. 1st Feb

Bore da,

I hope you have had a nice weekend and enjoyed the snow we were lucky to have again yesterday!

This week there will be no start of the week video, as I will be seeing all of your smiley faces on our Monday morning Well-being check-in.  I was so pleased to see most of you on Friday and I hope that you all enjoyed seeing each other too.

Please can I remind you that you will only take part in one of the calls, so please check the previous blog post if you're unsure of your allocated time.  Please only join your call at this time, or you may be left in the lobby.  For our Monday call, you do not need any resources, just be ready to go at your time.  I'll update you about Friday's call, later this week.

Thank you all once again for the wonderful work last week and a big 'bendegedig' to those who received a certificate last week.  You are all working so, so hard and I am very proud of you.

Work will continue to be found on j2homework, with each task on a new page, the same as last week. I will go over some of the tasks with you during our meeting.

Brawddeg yr Wythnos

Can you try using this at home this week?

Have a fantastic week.

Teams Meetings Well-Being Sessions

 Hi Everyone,

We have decided to hold 2 Teams meetings each week with the children, one on a Monday and another on a Friday.  Meetings will begin this Friday.  The focus of the meetings will be well-being, to give the children opportunity to check in with staff and friends that they haven't seen in a while and boost their spirits during this tricky time.

You should have had an email to say that I have added you to our class Teams page.

I will meet the children in two groups across the morning.  Both meetings for the day will be the same and your child will be allocated a group and a group time that will also stay the same every week.

You will receive an email invitation to your meeting by the end of the day.  Please check your inbox and accept the invitation. If the email disappears, don't worry, the meeting can also be found in your calendar on Office 365.

PTA Event - Virtual Balloon Race

Virtual Balloon Race - 14th February 2021

Welcome to our first virtual PTA balloon race!

The link to purchase a balloon: https://ecoracing.co/user/page/1321

Covid has had an impact on the way we would normally fundraise for the PTA so we are having to find fun alternatives instead. We are currently fundraising for the school to refresh the allotment, create a story telling area in the woods and to have a bike rack fitted on the school grounds which will help make outdoor learning more enjoyable for the children and to encourage cycling to and from school.

The valentines day balloon race will replace the valentines day disco and help us raise much needed funds towards these projects.  The virtual balloons will launch on February 14th from the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the children can track their balloons using real time weather conditions to determine how far the balloons have travelled.

The children (and adults!) can choose the shape, colour and pattern of their balloons and even decide the weight depending on how much helium is put into each one. Messages and names can also be written on the balloons allowing you to gift balloons to friends and families and having your own race within the race!

At £3 a balloon this is a great way to have a bit of fun with your friends and family and something different for the children to get involved in and enjoy seeing how far their balloon travels over a 7 day period. Where in the world will it end up??

100% eco friendly fun!

Wythnos 4 WC. 25th Jan

Bore da,

Welcome to Week 4 of home learning.  I hope you all had some fun in the snow yesterday!  What a lovely surprise!

Please see the video for information about this week:

A big diolch yn fawr for all of the fabulous work handed in last week.  I was so impressed by all of the hard work and effort that went in.  We also need to say 'da iawn' to the children who received certificates last week.  Continue to work hard this week, as there are lots of stars to be earned and another chance to get a special certificate at the end of the week.

J2Homework
We will continue to upload our work to J2Homework, however, we have slightly changed the format.  Each task will now be available on a separate page for you and once you have completed the task, you can tick it off to say it's been completed.  You still have the option of which activity you would like to do when, as we know having the choice fits in well with your day at home.

Spelling
Please continue to practice just one spelling list per week.  Remember you should also be writing words into sentences, as we do in school, remembering punctuation and best handwriting.

Teams meeting
We are planning to begin Teams meeting live sessions, starting this Friday.  This will be a wellbeing meeting which will give the children opportunity to 'check-in', play some games and see their friends.  Please keep an eye on the blog for more information.

Brawddeg yr Wythnos
Here is this weeks Brawddeg yr Wythnos (Phrase of the Week).  Can you use it at home with your families?

I hope everyone has a fantastic week.  If you need me, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Take care

Wythnos 3

 Bore da all,

I hope everyone had a good week last week.  Thank you for all of the work that was uploaded and for all of the hard work and effort that you put in.

Please watch the video below for information from me this week.

There are a few messages this week:

Weekly tasks

I have popped this information onto the video but just a reminder that you only have to complete one level of each task. With language tasks, if you are choosing to reach 3 stars, you will also need to work through stars 1 and 2 to include all elements of quality writing, but with maths and topic tasks, only one level is needed that best challenges your child.  If you complete one level and decide to try the next, that's fine, but there is no expectation of this.  Choose the level that is most appropriate for your child, that challenges them but also allows them to work with some independence.

Spelling

Please continue with spelling lists at home.  Test one list each week and move on if you have 9 or 10 out of 10.  If you have 9 out of 10, carry the one word that was incorrect over to the next week.  When you reach the end of your list, let me know which one you have finished and I will share the next list with you.  You can let me know on j2message or via email.

Brawddeg yr Wythnos

Please see the image below for our Brawddeg yr Wythnos (Phrase of the Week) across the school this week.  Can you use it at home with your family?

Questionnaire

Thank you to those that have already completed the questionnaire.   I have looked at the results so far and I have made some changes this week in view of your comments.  If you haven't had chance to complete it yet, please take some time to answer the questions. I really value your feedback and can use this to adapt the work as much as I can, considering the circumstances.

If you need anything this week, please get in touch.  I hope everyone has a fantastic week and enjoy the tasks.

Wythnos 2 WC. 11th Jan

Bore da all,

I have uploaded a new video for you with some information about this week - please see below.

The resources to go with each of the task 1 and 2 remote learning activities on j2homework will be available by 9am.  Resources for some of tasks 3, 4 and 5 for each subject will be available by Tuesday afternoon for you.

I am looking forward to seeing your work this week - I was really impressed with what you produced last week.  Keep it up, Craig y Llyn!

I know that some of you enjoyed doing the emoji registration last week, the same as the Key Stage 2 children. If you would like to check in with me doing this, you can.

If you need anything, don't forget that I am available on j2message or you can contact school admin.  I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Have a good week everyone and stay safe.
